This DATELINE program also showed what initiated this restraint. One of Dane’s parents told him to go to the bathroom and he said he didn’t want to. The parent then dragged Dane off of his bed onto the ground. What is significant about this is that the boy was not posing a threat to anyone, to himself or to property. He was restrained for well over two hours solely because his parents were being directed by Federici’s plan to show the boy who was boss. And even complaining about this painful restraint was interpreted being non-compliant.

Federici must certainly know that federal guidelines and all national mental health professional organizations consider it unacceptable to use physical restraint for anything but emergency safety. Use of restraint, even for emergencies, is further considered a sign of “therapy failure.”

Interestingly, it appears that Dr. Federici objects to this clip being shown on the Internet, although he claims it was a huge marketing success for him, with thousands of parents contacted him after this favorable DATEline show aired.

If Federici has had a change of mind about teaching this dangerous restraint, it hasn’t stopped him from selling his self-published book, “Help for the Hopeless Child,” that advocates its use. No, I think it is the embarrassment of having the group of survivors here point out that “The Emperor” (as he is actually referred to in the DATELINE program) is buck naked when it comes to the humane and respectful treatment of children.

To see the restraint method illustrated in Federici’s book, go to the book’s site on Amazon:

And search in the book for “SEQUENCE ONE HOLDING” and go to where this phrase appears on page 111. Note how the boy’s face is made to look demonic.

Thank you again for the information, Linda.

It did not take me long to find the link for Dane’s parents’ organisation (Dane is 17 years old now and will turn 18 next year):

    Parenting Adoptees Can Trust (PACT)

And here is some experience reported from the retreat the PACT runs. Note: instead of the retreat in 2009, the families went to ATTACh.

Here is Debra Jones’ own description of the retreat, sourced from neighborsgo.com:

Dane’s story is an example also of how a Christian university and its alumni can go into an educational programme.

Foetal alcohol syndrome + lead toxins + instutitionalisation is indeed a powerful cocktail.

To have it unknown and untreated for ten years and more would be outrageous, but it seems not uncommon.

The entire hour Dateline program has some interesting bits. At one point, the mother appears totally frustrated by the program, and she tells Dateline to turn off its cameras. When the cameras can turn back on — there has been a some mysterious breakthrough!

Also not shown here is the total control put on the boy: He has to stay no further than three feet away from one of his parents at all times during waking hours and ask for everything. The parents are told to keep affection to a minimum. These children are kept out of school for months.

Meant to post this comment here, but first posted it under another heading by accident:

Face down restraint; food deprivation, and isolation; maybe these two members of Congress can help with the AT/P issue as well as the schools issue?
